Brook got their 2020 campaign in The NWML Premier Division underway with an impressive win over last seasons defeated Grand Finalists Shevington Sharks.
It was The Sharks who came closest to scoring in the first quarter however Brooks solid defence, ably led by Jack Wilson and Cameron Tunstall, wasn’t to be breached as the visitors were held up over the line on three occasions.
The home side hit back with three tries in twenty minutes to take control of the game. Firstly it was Bobby Williams who intercepted deep inside his own half he raced 75 Metres and evaded the covering tacklers to score an unconverted try in corner.
On the half hour mark Brook extended their lead when Tom Johnston sent brother Matt through a gap on halfway Matt Johnston fended off The Sharks Full Back to score by the posts with Jordan Darwin converting.
Right on the whistle for the interval Brook scored their second intercept try.
It was Lewis Gartland who was on hand this time to intercept from deep inside his own half, he raced away to score under the posts with Jordan Darwin again converting to give his side a 16-0 interval lead.
Brook killed of any hopes of a Sharks come back with a try in the opening minutes of the Second Half. Lewis Gartland was twice involved his neat pass sent Phil Swift clear his run was halted by the The Sharks Full back but a quick play the ball had the visitors defence stretched and Gartland threw out a brilliant long pass to Bobby Williams who crossed for his second try in the corner.
The Sharks finally got the try their endeavors deserved when Loose Forward Tom O’Loughlin forced his way over from close range.
The visitors didn’t help their cause with a double sin binning on the hour mark however despite their reduced numbers they threw the ball about playing catch up rugby however one loose pass was picked up by Cameron Birkett who raced away from halfway to score with Mike Wynn converting.
With their numbers restored Mark Wright added a consolation try for Shevington in the closing minutes.
Cameron Tunstall was selected as The Heatrek Man of the Match with Lewis Gartland taking The Tisdalls Players Man of the Match award.
